Statement About HUAWEI AI Life and Privacy

HUAWEI AI Life is an app operated by Huawei Device Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Huawei", "we", "us", or "our") that allows you to control and manage smart devices using your mobile device. Huawei takes your personal information and privacy seriously, and is committed to taking appropriate security measures to protect your personal information in accordance with relevant laws and established industry security standards.

We will use your HUAWEI ID to request access to the server of AI Life. You will not be able to use some AI Life services if you do not provide your HUAWEI ID information.

We will collect your personal data in order to allow you to manage your smart devices and scenes, share device management between family members, and submit feedback. Refer to the description below for details.

We also provide you with Vmall, a forum, and a user experience improvement program. Refer to the description below for details.

We work in cooperation with our partners to provide you with the device sharing feature. Your device information will be sent to these partners to provide you with better services.

We will also improve and recommend services to you based on your HUAWEI ID, as well as information about the AI Life app and the devices paired via the app. Refer to the description below for details.

To deliver physical prizes or gift packages you won by participating in activities, we need to provide your contact information to the third-party courier company. Refer to the description below for details.

1. How We Collect and Use Your Personal Information

1.1 Account login

In order to provide you with AI Life services and manage smart devices, we need to collect your following information: your HUAWEI ID username, login password, nickname, and profile picture. Among the information collected, your login password is personal sensitive information. The purpose of collecting such information is to log in to the HUAWEI ID servers to authenticate your identity in order to grant server access permissions for the AI Life app.

We will use your personal information in the following ways: the HUAWEI ID username and login password you enter will be encrypted and transmitted to the HUAWEI ID servers for login authentication. This information will not be stored either on the AI Life app or on the HUAWEI ID servers.

If you do not provide such information and you do not log in to your HUAWEI ID, you will not be able to use AI Life services. After logging in to your HUAWEI ID, AI Life will automatically retrieve your nickname and profile picture and display it on the app screen.

1.2 Basic services of smart device management

In order to discover smart devices and connect to a WLAN network, AI Life requires access to your device's location to obtain the WLAN networks list, WLAN name, and WLAN password. Among the information collected, your WLAN password is sensitive personal information. The aforementioned information is only used locally and will not be uploaded to any servers.

AI Life offers a Remember Password feature to facilitate the pairing of devices. By enabling this feature, WLAN passwords will be encrypted and stored locally in the AI Life app so that you can pair devices in the future without having to re-enter a password. However, your use of the device pairing function will not be affected if you choose not to enable this feature.

If you use a Huawei mobile phone or router that automatically remembers the WLAN names and WLAN passwords of WLAN networks you previously connected to, such information will be filled in automatically when you pair smart devices.

In order for AI Life to bind, control, and manage smart devices, we need to collect your following information: device name, model, version, manufacturer, identifier, MAC address, IP address, device running status, custom properties, setting parameters, device status messages, and device control and usage records. The purpose of collecting such information is to set device properties and parameters, check device running status and usage history, and conduct statistical analysis, monitoring, and research on device and service operation status, in order to improve device quality and provide better services

We will use your personal information in the following ways: The aforementioned information will be encrypted, transmitted to, and stored on Huawei servers. At the same time, the AI Life app will inquire data from the servers and display it on the app's devices page with your consent.

If you do not provide such information, you will not be able to use AI Life to discover, pair, control, and manage smart devices.

The above information will be collected by the following devices:

Lighting equipment, including lamps, mood lights, reading lamps, smart light strips, aromatherapy lamps, and music lamps.

Energy-saving equipment, including power sockets, power strips, smart switches, electrical control gateways, multi-functional switch receivers, and power monitoring switches.

Sanitary and bathroom equipment, including smart curtains, smart window openers, smart drying racks, bathroom heat lamps, water heaters, smart mirrors, electric roller blinds, dryers, washing machines, electric toothbrushes, hair dryers, and shavers.

Kitchen appliances, including soy milk makers, electric ovens, cooker hoods, electric steamers, bread makers, rice cookers, microwave ovens, steam ovens, blenders, electric kettles, air fryers, cooking robots, water purifiers, dishwashers, food processors, and mugs.

Cleaning equipment, including sweeping robots, window cleaning robots, smart vacuum cleaners, shoe cabinet nursing machines, smart garbage cans, and hanging ironing machines.

Security equipment, including doorbell gateways, alarms, remote controllers, emergency buttons, and sensors.

Environmental equipment, including standard air conditioners, central air conditioners, air processors, air quality detectors, environmental parameter detectors, air purifiers, smart fans, humidifiers, heating systems, and air conditioning companions.

Devices with screens, including mobile phones, tablets, Visions, and monitors.

Wearable devices and accessories, including watches, bands, and headsets.

Other equipment, including electric toys, self-balancing scooters, smart skateboards, and electric bicycles.

Some of the above devices only support the AI Life app if you downloaded and installed it from an app store.

1.3 Smart device cloud service

In order for you to pair the following smart devices and use the features and services provided by these devices from the AI Life app, we need to collect the following information:

For routing devices, including various types of WLAN routers, WLAN amplifiers, mobile WLAN hotspots, and PLC modems, the following information needs to be collected: administrator username and password, IP address and MAC address of devices that connect to the router, as well as IP address and configuration information of the router. Among the information collected, the administrator password is sensitive personal information and will only be saved on your device. The purpose of collecting such information is to authenticate the login of routing devices, check the working status and usage history of routing devices, statistical reports of data generated on such devices, configure and manage routing devices, and allow you to perform configuration operations easily.

For gateway devices, including Huawei routers, smart home controllers, PLC gateways, Bluetooth gateways, and ZigBee gateways, the basic information of the gateways and their subdevices needs to be collected. The information is collected for you to view the working status of the gateway devices and their subdevices and control and manage these devices, as well as for providing software update services for these devices.

For cameras, intelligent door locks, and multi-functional gateways, the following information needs to be collected: videos, pictures, and sounds recorded by the equipment, custom profile pictures, nicknames, ringtones, voice message data, unlock records for door locks. The purpose of collecting such information is to check the working status, surveillance information, and usage history of the devices. The unlock password of door lock devices will not be saved in the AI Life app or on Huawei servers. Huawei will not and cannot obtain or decrypt your unlock passwords. Certain gateway devices support a reminder feature, which can broadcast the event on your to-do list at the time you selected when you set the event on your phone. The reminder you set will be encrypted and stored on the gateway.

For audio and visual devices, including speakers, projectors, Visions, and set-top boxes, the following information needs to be collected: videos, pictures, and playback records. The purpose of collecting such information is to check the working status, usage history of these devices, and to provide you with data backup services.

For health and fitness devices, including weighing scales, body fat scales, sleep detectors, sport bands, and watches, the following information needs to be collected: custom profile picture and nickname, height, age, gender, and date of birth set by the user, height, weight, bio-impedance (body fat), breathing rate, heart rate, sleep status, user location, and exercise route as measured by the device. Among the information collected, your health and fitness data and exercise route are sensitive personal information. The purpose of collecting such information is to check the working status, fitness data collected, and usage history of health and fitness devices.

For in-car devices, including smart rearview mirrors, and traffic recorders, the following information needs to be collected: location information, driving records and trajectories, videos, pictures, and sounds recorded by the device. The purpose of collecting such information is to check the working status and usage history of in-car devices, statistical reports of data generated on such devices.

For personal care devices, including skin care and hydration devices, eye massage devices, eye masks, and massage and beauty devices, the following information needs to be collected: skin hydration deficiency monitoring data, and skin monitoring data. Among the information collected, your health data is sensitive personal data. The purpose of collecting such information is to check the working status and usage history of personal care devices, monitoring data collected and its statistical reports.

For devices with screens, including monitors, the following information needs to be collected: eye care settings of the monitors, device names, microphone on/off settings, and screen projection trustlists of such devices.

Fitness data, which will be monitored by some devices, is sensitive information and will only be uploaded to servers with your consent. Cloud services for some devices are provided by third-party manufacturers, which independently collect and use the data required by their respective devices. Huawei is not involved in the collection and processing of data for such devices. Third-party manufacturers will govern their data collection activities in accordance with their respective privacy policies. Please read such privacy policies carefully and authorize your consent when accessing the device for the first time.

You can stop the data collection for a bound device by going to the device's screen in the AI Life app and then going to Settings > Remove device (or Unpair) to delete the device.

If you do not provide such information, you will not be able to use the services provided by smart devices in the AI Life app.

Some of the above devices (such as routers and cameras) only support the AI Life app if you downloaded and installed it from an app store.

1.4 Smart voice-controlled devices

Huawei smart voice-controlled devices (or services) are provided by Huawei Software Technologies Co., Ltd. to allow you to control and manage smart devices. In order to enable you to use services and features of smart voice-controlled devices (such as voice-controlled alarm clocks, story tellers, and dashboard cameras) from the AI Life app, we need to collect the following information:

Voice commands, which are used for basic voice control and communication purposes. The text of your speech input will be encrypted and stored on our servers.

Approximate location information, which is used for weather query. Playback records, which are used to check the working status and usage history of smart audio/video devices.

We will use your personal information in the following ways:

The above information will be encrypted and stored on our servers. The AI Life app may, with your consent, access such data on the servers and display them on the respective device screen.

We can only provide you with this service if you provide the above information.

1.5 Online feedback

To allow you to provide online feedback regarding problems relating to the AI Life app, we need to collect your following information: app logs, device logs, your contact information and the description of the problem, and screenshots and videos of the problem. App logs and device logs include such information as device status, sensor data, device operation records, etc. Such information is collected and used to analyze and locate the cause of the current problem. The purpose of collecting your contact information is to check with you whether the problem is resolved completely or whether more information is required to resolve the problem.

We shall use your personal information in the following ways: Locate and resolve the reported problem. We will not display your personal information, or use such information to push advertisements to you.

If you do not provide the aforementioned information, we shall not be able to effectively locate and resolve your problem.

1.6 Business intelligence

In order to evaluate the quality of AI Life services and improve user experience, we need to collect your following information: app information (app name, version, and visit duration), phone information (model and version), city, HUAWEI ID, and device information (device identifier, devices list, name, and model). The purpose of collecting such information is to log in to the HUAWEI ID servers to authenticate your identity in order to grant server access permissions for the AI Life app.

We will use your personal information in the following ways: Data such as device identifier and user identifier will be anonymized, encrypted, and then transmitted to Huawei servers for statistical analysis from which data statistics reports will be generated to evaluate the quality of AI Life services and improve user experience.

If you do not provide such information, we will not be able to evaluate the quality of AI Life services and improve user experience in a timely manner.

1.7 Smart device and app update

In order to update the AI Life app and the firmware of your smart devices, as well as for the purpose of business operation analysis, we need to collect your following information: the identifiers and types of smart devices you have bound, your phone model, and the identifier and version of your app for detecting and downloading version updates.

If you do not provide such information, you will not be able to update the AI Life app or the firmware of smart devices.

AI Life only provides you with the option to update your device firmware. Firmware updates are provided by individual device manufacturers who are responsible for ensuring the quality and performance of firmware updates. Some devices support automatic firmware updating. When automatic updating is enabled, the device will automatically detect, download and install firmware updates. You can enable or disable Auto-update in the Settings screen of a smart device. After you disable Auto-update for a device, you can still update its firmware manually.

1.8 Scenes and device management sharing among family members

In order to provide scenes and device management sharing among family members, we need to collect your following information: HUAWEI ID, nicknames, profile pictures, device information, scene card information, and scene ID in order to configure scenes, manage family groups, and share and receive device controls.

A scene card can perform various tasks automatically. To allow you to create a scene, we need to collect the scene settings, such as your preset time, precise location, and voice response to be played for a specific scene, which will be stored by us after being encrypted. If a query needs to be made to a third-party service provider when the scene is activated, Huawei will generate a random device identifier to be sent along with the query so you will not be identified individually by the third party. After creating and adding a scene, you can touch the card to activate it manually. The scene may also be activated automatically under preset conditions. To stop automatic activation, turn off the switch on the scene card.

To provide you with the weather broadcast, navigation, and geofencing services when the corresponding scene is activated, we have integrated AutoNavi's locating, search, and map service SDKs and will share your device, location, and network information with AutoNavi. To provide you with the navigation services, we will share the location information that we have collected with AutoNavi or Baidu for route planning and navigation. The data will be collected and processed in accordance with the privacy policies of the third parties. For details, please refer to the privacy policies of the map service providers such as AutoNavi and Baidu.

If you do not provide the aforementioned information, you will not be able to share scenes and device controls among family members.

This feature is only available if you downloaded and installed the AI Life app from an app store.

1.9 AI Life services

In order to provide AI Life services, we need to collect your following information: user identifier, IP address, check-in, lucky draw, and L-Points redemption records, the information you provide to collect prizes (your name, phone number, and address), and the scenes you liked. The purpose of collecting such information is to allow you to check in for events, participate in prize draws, and request redemptions, and for us to recommend scenes for you.

In order to send physical prizes to you, we need to provide your contact information to the third party courier company.

If you do not provide the above information, we will not be able to provide you with these services.

Check-in, lucky draws, and L-Points redemption are only available if you downloaded and installed the AI Life app from an app store.

1.10 Vmall

In order to provide information query and public testing services for Vmall and AI Life, the AI Life app integrates the Huawei Vmall service. The privacy protection of personal data that you authorize to share or submit in Vmall is governed by Huawei Vmall's privacy policy.

If you purchase goods and services, you need to enter your name, address, and telephone number to complete the purchase. Such data and order information will be stored on the Huawei Vmall servers. Please refer to Vmall's policies for more information.

If you do not provide such information, you will not be able to complete purchases in Huawei Vmall. However, your normal use of the service's other functions will not be affected.

1.11 Forum

AI Life provides access to the Forum section in the Huawei Club app. The privacy protection of your personal data you submit in the Forum section is governed by Huawei Club's privacy policy. You need to log in to your HUAWEI ID in order to post and comment on the forum. Your data and personal information will be stored on Huawei Club's servers. For details, please refer to the privacy policies of Huawei Club. If you do not provide such information, you will not be able to post or comment in the Forum section. However, it will not affect your normal use of other AI Life services.

1.12 User experience improvement program

In order to deal with faults and improve user experience, we need to collect your following information: AI Life app and smart device logs, which contain anonymized device numbers and key process logs, event logs, error logs, and so on. The logs will not record your sensitive information.

We will use your personal information in the following ways: Automatically collect the AI Life app and smart device logs and upload them to the server, analyze the log information to diagnose the status of the device, and identify and locate device failures.

If you do not provide such information, we may be unable to find and correct AI Life service errors and improve user experience promptly. However, this will not affect your use of the basic functions of this service. You can opt out of the user experience program by going to Me > Settings and disabling Join the Huawei User Experience Improvement Program.

1.13 Controlling and managing third-party devices in AI Life

You can manage devices that were originally managed through third-party apps. For such devices, we will obtain your following personal information from third-party service providers after you pair a third-party account:

Third-party account information, including your nickname and profile picture, which will be displayed in AI Life.

The list of devices added to third-party apps, which will be displayed in AI Life.

Device and network information, including device identifier, MAC address, device SN, which will be used to identify devices currently in operation and control these devices safely.

If the personal information processing activities we undertake while conducting our services exceed the scope of your original consent to provide personal information to third-party service providers, we will obtain your express consent before processing your personal information. In addition, we will strictly abide by the relevant laws and regulations, and require third-party service providers to ensure the legitimacy of the information they provide.

If we need to use information for purposes not stated in this Statement, we will ask for your consent in advance.

If we need to use information collected for a specific purpose for other purposes, we will ask for your consent in advance.

To withdraw your consent, go to Me > Link accounts, select the third-party app you want to unlink with, and touch Unlink.

In order to provide you with third-party smart home services, we have integrated the JD SDK into the app in order to connect to the JD cloud and allow you to manage devices purchased from JD.com. You can also link other third-party accounts to sync and control more devices through AI Life. These accounts require web-based authorization instead (their SDKs have not been integrated into the app).

1.14 Controlling and managing smart devices in a third-party app

When you link your HUAWEI ID with a third-party smart home app and authorize the app to manage your smart devices, we need to provide the following information to the app: device identifier, device hardware information, network information, device running status, custom attributes, settings, service events, as well as device control and usage records. Personal information provided to third-party smart home apps is governed by their own privacy policies, which you can read for more details. Before linking your HUAWEI ID with a third-party smart home app, you acknowledge that you have read the user agreement and other relevant privacy policies of the third-party service provider. You can view and revoke the authorization by going to Account center > Privacy center.

2. Required Permissions

Phone (device information): This permission is required according to the system permission request principles to read your device identifier, in order to detect and display wearable devices on your device.

Location: This permission is required according to the system permission request principles to obtain the WLAN and Bluetooth device lists, in order to connect the AI Life app with nearby smart devices. The Location permission is also required to set the location when creating a scene.

Camera: This permission is required to allow you to add users by scanning the QR code in the AI Life app.

Contacts: This permission is required to share functions in the AI Life app across devices.

Microphone: This permission is required to pair and use microphone devices in the AI Life app and for you to record your custom speech.

Storage: This permission is required to read files stored on your device so that you can submit files with your feedback and share lucky draws with L-Points in AI Life. This permission is also required to save settings for your scenes.

App list: This permission is required for you to share apps over the network provided by your mobile broadband device without consuming mobile data.

In addition to the above permissions, this app also requires access to Bluetooth or NFC in order to connect to a Bluetooth device or an NFC-enabled device. You can disable Bluetooth or NFC in system Settings if you do not need them.

You can manage your permissions for AI Life from system Settings.

3. Personalized Recommendations

We will push content you may be interested in (including new product recommendations) to you based on the statistics data generated by the AI Life app, including but not limited to displaying events, prizes, and comments in your notification panel or in the AI Life app. The purpose of this feature is to provide you with a better user experience and personalized services. This feature will only be enabled with your consent. If you don't want us to recommend content to you, go to Me > Settings and disable Personalized recommendations.

To provide you with the feature, we need to access the following information: your HUAWEI ID, AI Life basic app information, information regarding your use of the AI Life app, and your device hardware information.

After disabling personalized recommendations, you will still receive service notifications from HUAWEI AI Life, but they may not be relevant to you. To disable such notifications, go to Me > Settings and disable Notifications.

4. Protection of Minors

This app is for adult use only. If you are a minor, your parent or legal guardian must agree to your use of this app, and agree to the applicable terms and conditions. Parents and legal guardians should also take appropriate precautions to protect minors, including monitoring their use of this app.

5. Sharing Data with Third Parties

AI Life allows you to view your device notifications in the WeChat Service account of AI Life (as the account name may vary, please refer to the actual name when you follow the account). For this purpose, you need to enable the WeChat notifications feature and give your consent for Huawei to share your device information (device names, images, and rooms in which the devices are located) and the device notifications (titles, details, and sending times) with the WeChat Service account. Such notifications will only be displayed in your personal WeChat account.

You acknowledge and agree that (a) you shall read, fully understand, and comply with the corresponding user agreement and privacy policies before using any third-party app, and (b) your personal information shared with a third-party app will be subject to the privacy policy of the third party.

The WeChat notifications feature is only supported in AI Life versions released in HUAWEI AppGallery.

6. Managing Your Data

In order for you to more easily access, amend, and delete your personal information during the course of using the AI Life app and guarantee you the right to withdraw your consent regarding personal information usage, we have added the relevant operating settings in the product. Refer to the following guidelines for details.

6.1 Access personal information

You can view the running status and usage history of a bound smart device on the device's home screen in the AI Life app. Go to the device's Settings screen to view information about the device, including the device name, location, manufacturer, MAC address, SN, and the device's network information.

You can view your family groups information by going to Me > Shared, or view existing scene settings by going to Scenes > My scenes. You can also touch your profile picture to open the HUAWEI ID app to view your HUAWEI ID information, or touch My Vmall to open the Huawei Vmall app to view your Vmall settings and usage records.

6.2 Delete personal information

You can stop data collection for a bound device, and delete the device data stored locally on the AI Life app and on servers by going to the device's screen in the AI Life app and then going to Settings > Remove device (or Unpair) and deleting the device from the list.

You can delete a scene card you have subscribed to by going to Scenes > My scenes. Your custom scene settings stored on the server will then be deleted.

You can uninstall the AI Life app or clear the AI Life app data to clear data stored locally in the AI Life app, or go to Me > Settings > About and touch DISABLE SERVICE in AI Life to stop using AI Life services and delete your personal information stored locally on the AI Life app and on servers.

6.3 Update personal information

You can set device operation parameters and change device information for smart devices you have bound on the home screen or Settings screen of the device.

You can modify your family groups information by going to Me > Shared, or modify existing scene settings by going to Scenes > My scenes. You can also touch your profile picture to open the HUAWEI ID app to modify your HUAWEI ID information, or touch My Vmall to open the Huawei Vmall app from where you can modify your Vmall settings.

6.4 Withdraw consent

You can open AI Life, go to Me > Settings > About, and touch DISABLE SERVICE to withdraw your consent to use your personal information and stop using AI Life services. The next time you use AI Life services, you will need to grant permission again.

You can go to Me > Settings and disable Join the Huawei User Experience Improvement Program to opt out of the program and withdraw you consent to the use of your personal information therefor.

You can also obtain a copy of your personal data in relation to your HUAWEI ID by going to Settings > Account center > Privacy center > Obtain your data copy on your Huawei phone or tablet, or logging in to the Huawei Privacy Tool(https://privacy.consumer.huawei.com/PrivacyTool/index.html) page using your HUAWEI ID on your computer and then clicking Obtain your data copy.

7. Data Storage Location and Retention Period

The above data will be sent to and stored on servers in the People's Republic of China.

We will retain your personal information for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Statement, and delete or anonymize your personal information beyond the time set out below, except as otherwise required by applicable laws and regulations.

The specific retention time of your personal information in AI Life is set out below:

All data stored locally on the AI Life app will be immediately deleted when you uninstall the AI Life app, erase the data in relation to AI Life, or delete your HUAWEI ID.

All smart devices and services data stored on servers will be immediately deleted when you delete devices or scene cards in AI Life or stop using AI Life services by going to Me > Settings > About and touching DISABLE SERVICE in AI Life to clear all data in the app. If you delete a scene card on the My scenes screen, information about the scene card will be deleted immediately.

All service logs, statistical data, operation data, and history records stored on servers will be deleted at non-regular intervals when we clean the server data. The data will not be stored for more than two (2) years.

Your lucky draw and redemption data will be retained for two (2) years.

All device update data stored on servers will generally be stored for no more than six (6) months. However, when used for the purpose of business operation analysis, the data will be stored for up to seven (7) years.

In addition, if we discontinue our products or services, we will notify you in the form of a push notification, announcement, or other means, and delete your personal information or anonymize it within a reasonable period of time.

8. Other Information Related to User Interests

You can quickly and conveniently access some third-party websites or screens from the AI Life app screen. These screens are provided independently by third parties, and Huawei disclaims warranties of any kind, express or implied, for the content, services, or information contained therein.

You are solely liable for your interaction with such third-party websites. Before you enter a third-party page for the first time, the third-party service provider will prompt you with the relevant agreements and privacy statements. Please read these agreements and privacy statements carefully before proceeding. These third-party companies use the open ID derived from your HUAWEI ID to collect data. The aforementioned data is processed independently by third parties and cannot be accessed by Huawei.

9. Contacting Us

We have a department (or specialists) dedicated to personal information protection that you can contact by visiting the Privacy Questions page(https://consumer.huawei.com/cn/legal/privacy-questions/).

If you are not satisfied with the response you receive, especially if you feel that our processing or handling of your personal information has violated or infringed on your legal rights and/or interests, you may seek external resolution, whether by filing a lawsuit with the people's court in the relevant jurisdiction, submitting a complaint to the industry self-regulation association or relevant government regulatory agencies, or by other means. You may also consult us regarding the available channels for voicing your complaint.
