Today I’d to go over some complaining phrases that you’ll hear very often from the conversation by American people. Hopefully after reading this, you will get a better idea on how to express when you really want to complain about something in English.
(1) This sucks. 不好的, 很烂 If you’ve been to America, I am sure that you’ll hear this word very often in the conversation. The word “suck” means bad and horrible. For example, if you are working on an assignment and you really don’t like it, and then you can say, “This really sucks”. Another example, if you are stuck in the traffic for a long time and you think this is really bad, then you can say, “This traffic here really sucks!” Another example, if you are having a bad day, and you can just say, “Today sucks, everything sucks.” One last example here, often time in the movie during a sporting event you will hear people from the audience say, “Hey, you guys suck!” to the team when the team they support is playing very bad. Anyway, hopefully now you get a better idea on how to use the phrase “This sucks”.
But remember, if you use this phrase you need to use it among good friends and peers.
(2) Sick and tired of something. 对某事感到厌烦 When you don’t like something, you can use the phrase “sick and tired of something”. You can use “sick and tired of something” together or you can separate them out by saying, “I am so sick of this” or “I am so tired of that”.
Example 1, if you don’t like doing administrative tasks, then you can say, “I am sick and tired of doing administrative tasks all day.” Another example, if you don’t like doing homework, you can say, “I am sick and tired of doing homework.”
(3) You are mean. 你很坏 “You are mean” means you are disrespectful; you are bad. You usually hear this phrase in conversation among peers and friends. For example, if a guy always likes to play pranks on others, (especially to girls), then you can say, “That guy is so mean!” Or if person A always says or does something disrespectful to others, you can say to person A, “Please, don’t be so mean to them.” or “You are so mean, dude.”
